Cerebrum - pyramidal cell and oligodendrocyte (100x objective lens)

This high magnification image from the mouse brain shows the perikaryon of a pyramidal cell and an adjacent nucleus that probably belongs to an oligodendrocyte, a type of glia cell that covers neuronal perikarya and forms myelin around nerve fibers in the central nervous system. The numerous fine, darkly stained lines are dendrites and axons.
