Pancreas - exocrine pancreas (100x objective lens)

This image shows several exocrine acini and a connective tissue septum (Se). The acini are rounded structures with a wall made up of a simple columnar epithelium of wedge-shaped serous secretory cells. The secretory cells: (1) circular, basally located nuclei (N), often with a prominent nucleolus (Nu); (2) basophilic cytoplasm (BC) in the basal half of the cells; and (3) apical cytoplasm filled with eosinophilic zymogen granules (Zy). The nuclei of fibroblasts (Fi) can be seen within the eosinophilic, dense connective tissue of the septum.
