Silver impregnation - Cerebrum (40x objective lens)

This image shows a section of cerebrum stained with silver. In this method, silver exclusively stains the perikarya, nucleus and processes of pyramidal cells (arrow), and other neurons. Other cells, such as glia, are not stained. The unstained holes and surrounding lightly stained strips mark the location of blood vessels, which are not stained in this method.
