Spinal cord - dorsal root ganglion (plastic section) (100x objective lens)

This view of a plastic section from the dorsal root ganglion shows the large perikarya (cell bodies) of unipolar neurons. Note the pale staining nuclei, containing a single, prominent nucleolus, which are characteristic for neurons. The neurons are surrounded by much smaller satellite cells, with rounded nuclei. The relatively tiny and very dark flattened nuclei belong to capillary endothelial cells. Capillary spaces and pink-staining erythrocytes can also be seen.
